Root Canal Treatment – Endodontics
Root canal treatment is a dental treatment method that is applied in the interior of the teeth and where soft tissues and nerves known as dental pulp are inflamed or infected. This treatment aims to relieve pain and infection by maintaining the structure of the tooth.
Conditions Requiring Root Canal Treatment
Tooth Decay
Tooth decay can affect enamel and dentine on the tooth surface, causing inflammation and infection in the tooth essence.
Dental Traumas
As a result of a sudden blow or accidents to the tooth, dental pulp may be damaged and an infection may develop.
Failure of Tooth Fillings or Restorations
As a result of tooth filling or leakage or fall of coatings, bacteria can reach the dental pulp and inflammation may occur.
How Is The Root Canal Treatment Done?
Before treatment begins, your dentist applies local anesthesia to ensure numbness in the area. Thus, the treatment process is carried out painlessly.
A hole is drilled to reach the tooth. This hole is made on, or behind the tooth so that the front of the tooth is not damaged.
Inflamed or infected tissue, nerves and bacteria in the tooth pulp are cleaned. The tooth pulp is emptied and sterilized. Dental pulp roots are shaped and washed with special tools.
Tooth Roots are filled with a special filling material called gutta-percha. This filler allows the roots to be sealed to prevent the dental pulp from re-infection.
After treatment, a restoration such as filling or coating is applied on the tooth. This allows the tooth to restore its durability and functionality.
Root Canal is an effective treatment method that treats pain and infection, ensuring tooth protection and long-lasting. However, the most appropriate treatment option and method for each patient should be determined as a result of evaluations by your dentist. Regular dental care and checks before and after treatment helps increase the chances of treatment success.
